by Roe: Is Computer Information Systems a good major for me?

I know some things about computers but I cant tell u everything about them…I just want to know can a person with a small percentage of computer skills be able to excel in Computer Information Systems, for example “Computer Support Technology“?

I go to the University of Georgia and my Major is MIS (Management Information Systems) which is basically the same thing as CIS. I love my major and I would definitely recommended it to everyone who doesn’t necessarily want to go to Computer Science (because of all the science involved) but who wants to learn computer systems along with business. Most people aren’t aware of this major. But right now even as the economy is pretty slow there is a growing demand for MIS or CIS majors. Apple is in the process of building a facility in California to recruit MIS and CIS majors in the near future. There are many opportunities out there and most people don’t even realize it…

Take some training get a certificatification and you are good to go. Lot of people i know when they started with the computer careers they didn’t know much either. You learn and get experience as you work in it

You can excel in that major if really have the interest in computers. You don’t need a lot of skills starting out but you have to willing to learn new stuff all time. It a ever changing field but obviosly computer aren’t going away so there will always be a need for computer support techs. I started out messing with an old commodore 64 when I was 13 and even after working in information technology for 11 years I still love it.
