: How do I transfer files from one computer to the next?


My computer is plugged into my home computer via a blue network cable. I want to transfer music and data but don`t know how. i have a modem and router, does that help?

If it’s temporary setup, follow other’s advice. Use USB stick or external hard disk.

If it’s more like permanent setup, you want to setup network to transfer files. If you two computers are connected directly to each other using blue network cable, you need to set it up manually. And it’s not recommended, although it’s network speed will be fastest.


I’m pretty sure you have a broadband router. Hook up everything to a router. If you need more ports. Get a switch with 8 ports or more, connect it to router. And connect everything to router or switch. In this way, everything is connected to one happy network.


And from your computer, enable “file sharing” I’m not going to describe details since I don’t know what you have. Goto help menu from your computer and search for “file sharing,” or google it.

Yes you can transfer data with the help of modem and router. A router is different than a modem: your modem connects you to the internet, while your router connects your computers to one another.
