Some computer parts for audio production, computer build good?

Question

by Max Power
: What computer parts would be good for building an audio production computer?

Hi I am trying to build a fast computer to use only for audio, this computer will be used to record and produce songs and audio, i have had trouble with past computers not being able to handle my massive projects, any suggestions on great computer parts or whole computers to use would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Also an estimated price and where would be the best source to buy from would be nice.

You may go for a strong processor with more cores like i7 as sound generation will stress out the processor. To support the processor you can have a medium type motherboard. Most of all get a good sound card. (Edirol, Creative etc) Those with a quiet Computer case it’ll come in handy.

You need a good soundcard. PCI (with ASIO) are very fast, no latency. The expensive ones have breakout leads for instrument/mic inputs. Next is USB (I have Presonus Audiobox which is an external souncard or you could go Firewire.

PCI is probably the best.

The other thing is quietness. If you are recording through microphone and you are close to PC it should be very quiet. Either quiet fans or watercooled.

Also everything disabled that may cause noise-internet/network connection, power management and any background progs that are not completely necessary. Otherwise a current CPU will be fine, good Intel m/board, 2Gig+ memory. Harddrive size will depend on how much data you save, but most drives now are 1T which should be fine. Largest monitor possible as DAWS show a lot of info (maybe 2 screens?).

It may be worth considering an Apple if your DAW runs on one.
