First, turn off then back on. If that doesn’t work…

Get hold of an install disk for your operating system (XP/Vista/Win 7) and boot with that (any one will do).

Insert the Windows CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

When the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If you don’t know the administrator password, there probably isn’t one so just press ENTER.

At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r (note the space

between chkdsk and /r) and press Return/Enter.

If you still have problems after the scan’s done, do the same steps again but this time type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /scannow). If that fails do it again and type fixmbr.

There are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster, beside adding more Ram to it.

1.If you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key.Sometimes, you uninstall any program there still some “leftover”which have not totally being remove. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So,if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan and clean it.If you don’t have registry cleaner, try this Ccleaner.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

a.Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

b.Click Start, click “Control Panel”, and then double-clickInternet Options”.

c.On the General tab, clickDelete Files” under Temporary Internet Files.

d.In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the “Delete all offline content” check box , and then click OK.

e.Click OK.

3.Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

a. Open your Start menu.

b. Click Run

c. In the command screen type “msconfig.exe”

d. In the “system configuration utility”,click either “service” or “startup” tab

e. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

f. Click “OK”

4.If it has been a while since you have defragmented, you might want to do a real quick run on that part of your System Tools too. Couldn’t hurt. Sometimes files get jumbled and loaded in wherever there is space and it takes a few extra minutes for the computer to pick up the pieces. Defrag will help get everything all organized together.
