Okay, let me start with saying there are a variety of ways to speed up a computer. I’ll run through some of the steps you can use here:

1. Firstly, there are several programs that I would advise you download:

Glary Utilites – This has a wide range of tools which are used to speed up your computer, registry defrag, cleaner, temp file remover etc, all of which help with performance.

Smart Defrag 1.1 – This helps defragment all of your programs – this makes them open quicker and respond better.

CCleaner – This helps remove other files like internet history and cleans your registry to speed up your comp.

(All programs here are safe and virus/ad-aware free)

2. Now, there are several windows tools that can be used to speed up your comp:

Go to start, click my computer, right click on Local (C) drive, click properties, go to tools. Then click on error checking, and click check now. This helps fix problems on your hard drive. NB: This can take a while

Go to start, click run, and then type in msconfig. Click on the start-up tab, and this gives you a list of all the programs that start when you turn on your computer. Turn off (untick) anything that isn’t your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and any other programs you want to start up e.g. maybe MSN Messenger.

3. Next up, make sure you have run anti-virus and anti-spyware tests on your computer, as this could be a source of lower performance. If you don’t have any programs, or aren’t sure about the ones you have, you should download:

AVG 8 – A good free anti-virus

Ad-Aware – Anti-spyware

Malwarebytes – Another good malware scanner & remover

4. I would also advise you remove any programs you no longer use, as they can take up a suprising amount of space. Go to control panel, and click add/remove programs. Don’t remove anything you need though.

5. Finally, if your internet browser is experiencing slowness, I advise downloading the latest Mozilla Firefox, and then downloading an add-on called Fasterfox by Spinball. This is an excellent way to surf the web

If none of these steps work, you can try more serious steps. You can try re-formatting your hard-drive to help speed it up. This is a bigger step though, and you will need to go to a professional IT company to get it done. You can also try adding more RAM to your computer, but again talk to an IT expert for details.

These stages should be effective though in speeding up your computer. If you still have problems, I would advise you go to an IT expert for consultation.

Hope this helped

Remove any unused programs. Run disk cleanup, and defrag the drive.

System tools is the place on your menu of tasks where you find disk cleanup and defragmentation. Do both. Also, empty your recycle bin. Which is on your desktop.
